The Gravy Song

Back when I was a teen we had a young cousin attend Easter services with us. She had not spent much time in church in her young life, but she seemed to enjoy the service. Afterwards she was asked what she liked best about the service and replied "the gravy song". What? She explained that she was referring to the song that said "up from the gravy rose".

We realized that she was talking about "Up From the Grave He Arose", a song often sung in the Nazarene church of my youth during Easter services. We all got a good laugh out of that, though I'm not sure the real message of the song came through. I won't be posting about this year's Easter services since I'll be gone this weekend, but here are a couple of humorous Easter posts from the past that are worth revisiting:
So, where will we be? The wife and I are leaving early Saturday morning for Las Vegas where the good folks at The Wynn Las Vegas offered us a free night in their 5-Diamond resort, and no, we don't have to sit through a time-share presentation. They offered us a free night on Sunday because we belong to their "Red Card" club, the free card you should sign up for in any hotel-casino even if you don't plan to gamble a dime. You never know what perks that will bring.

We didn't want to do a one-night trip, so on Saturday we'll be staying at the Las Vegas Hilton. I chose that one for two reasons:

  • Their rates for Saturday were the best I could find in a Strip or near-Strip hotel. I think their rates are better than others because they have Barry Manilow singing there and it takes a little extra effort to get tourists to come near.
  • They have one advantage that no other off-Strip property has - the Las Vegas Monorail stops right at their front door. We can jump on the monorail and ride it about 3.5 miles down to the MGM Grand on the south end of the Strip, or jump off at one of several stops along the way. It's way better than trying to drive down Las Vegas Blvd.

I'm not taking the laptop so any posting during the trip will probably come from the cellphone. I'll try to send a couple of shots a day back to the blog. The weather is supposed to be outstanding so it should be nice. At the same time my daughter will be visiting the real Italian cities of Rome, Florence and Venice, we'll be visiting faux Italy at The Bellagio, The Pallazo, The Venetian, and Caeser's Palace. I'll bet she comes back with better pictures.

One other note - the weekly HolyCoast ON THE AIR show will place on Tuesday night at 7pm instead of my usual Monday night slot. I'll be talking with you about the Obama pastor mess, the Dem meltdown in MI and FL, some interesting polling and whatever else comes up over the weekend. Click on the link to join in.
