Advice To North Carolina Republicans: Anybody But McCain

The North Carolina GOP is being unfairly tarred-and-feathered by the national party's own presidential candidate, John McCain, over a fairly innocuous campaign ad featuring the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. To their credit the NCGOP is standing firm and continuing with their plans to run the ad over McCain's self-righteous squalling. Even if it never airs on TV, the ad is getting hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube and in the free media.

Republicans in North Carolina are furious, if the calls to the Rush Limbaugh show this morning are any indication. Donations are pouring in to the NCGOP in protest of McCain's foolishness, but there's another way to protest that I would like to suggest. On May 6th North Carolina Republicans will go to the polls, and acccoring to the NCGOP website it looks like McCain is running unopposed, so here's what you do:
  • Go vote and do your best for the down ballot candidates
  • Either leave the presidential selection blank or write in something like "none of the above"

It's too bad there's no other candidate on the ballot. It would have been hilarious if McCain had lost the NC primary to Ron Paul or Mike Huckabee.

The post-election analysis will show a significant undervote in the presidential race which should be a message to McCain. He probably won't get it and will continue in his self-righteous moronitude, but he'll get to spend the next month answering questions about why so many Republicans in a reliably red state rejected his nomination. That's entertainment!

To the North Carolina GOP - my hat's off to you. I hope other state organizations stand up to the bully McCain as well as you have. If you'd like to contribute, you can go here.

And for Republicans in the rest of the country, as Rush says, we're all mavericks now. Just as McCain isn't obliged to follow desires of his fellow Republicans, we're not obliged to follow the will of John McCain.

Oh, and there's this. The DNC research director is passing around this joke:

"You know what you call someone who digs up dirt on John McCain? An archeologist."

Funny.

UPDATE: Also funny - Citizen McCain
