The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama's spiritual mentor and former pastor, is scheduled to appear on Bill Moyers' TV show on Friday:
In what will be his first interview since snippets of his preaching became a central issue in the U.S. presidential campaign, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. will speak publicly to veteran journalist and fellow UCC member Bill Moyers.
The interview will be broadcast on Friday evening, April 25, on Bill Moyers Journal, a PBS news series that airs nationally. Check local listings at www.pbs.org/moyers.
Wright retired in March after 36 years as senior pastor of the 8,000-member Trinity UCC in Chicago, where U.S. Sen. Barack Obama has been a member for more than 20 years. Trinity UCC is the largest congregation among the UCC's 5,700 churches.
This is guaranteed to be a mutual love-fest. Moyers is as far left as Wright is, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear some new outrages from Wright as Moyers eggs him on.
One thing for sure, both the Clinton and McCain campaigns will have their TiVOs running for this interview, and if something particularly good comes out of it, it won't take Clinton long to get the clips up on her website (and emailed to superdelegates).
I said long ago that until Obama makes a clean break from Dr. Wright he will end up associated with every new comment that comes from Wright's mouth. He had a chance to make that break in the last debate but didn't do it.
