Early this morning we'll be heading north for another trip to Sonoma State University to watch our daughter perform in two concerts this weekend. Tonight she'll be playing the devilishly hard Hindemith Sonata for Flute and Piano (it take about 15 minutes to play the whole thing), and she'll also be playing Liricas Castellanas as part of a quartet of musicians and singers.
Sunday afternoon she'll be playing two pieces as part of the Sonoma State University Honors Woodwind Quintet (not bad for a freshman). Her dad will be taping the whole thing and you can expect some new YouTube videos of the performances to hit the internet next week.
Next year promises to be big for her as well. Earlier this week she received an invitation from the Instrumental Music Department Head to join with faculty musicians in a concert performance next December. It's good to be the flute queen.
I'm taking the laptop and hope to post a little bit while we're gone, but posting may be sporadic. We're driving this time and have to leave Sonoma as soon as she's done on Sunday afternoon to get back home. However, I'll be heading back north again on Wednesday. She finishes the term this week and on Thursday I'll be bringing her and all her stuff back home. 2,000 miles in 6 days. That will be my 13th trip up there since we took her to school last August.
It'll be good to have her home again for awhile (the cat needs her nails clipped and a good bath, and she's the only one who can do that).
