With all the hot air coming out of the Obama campaign, they might be able to knock that 11,000 years down a bit.Barack Obama thinks the way to fight inflation is with inflation. Yesterday he told an audience questioner in Springfield, Mo.:
We could save all the oil that they're talking about getting off drilling if everybody was just inflating their tires and getting regular tune-ups. You could save just as much.
Power Line's John Hinderaker runs the numbers and concludes that Obama is vastly overpromising: "it would take . . . 11,308 years of proper tire inflation to equal 'all the oil that they're talking about getting off drilling.' "
Curiously, in Obama's Springfield speech, he promised "an energy rebate"--i.e., a government handout--"to help folks who are having trouble filling up their gas tank." But when it comes to deregulation of drilling, something government could do without cost to the taxpayer, he falls back on a call for personal virtue.
