Our Goal Should Be to Lower Our Standard of Living

Such is the theme of a letter to Nature Conservancy Magazine in the Summer 2008 issue (h/t Sam, a reader from Oregon):
Summer 2008 issue, first letter in Readers Respond To: Spring 2008

"The 'experts' missed the point in 'The Poverty Question.' The real
debate should not be how to bring other people's standard of living
up to our own,; it should be how to reduce our own standard of
living." ... "Bringing the world's poor up to our standard of
gluttony will only result in the complete and total destruction of
the environment. The debate should be how to reduce our gluttony and
make us more like them. PAUL OSMOND, WILLIAMSVILLE, ILLINOIS"

Paul, you're a moron, but you're typical of the mindset of many on the environwacko left. Yes, let's live in mud huts and swat flies with the tail of whatever we killed for lunch. That will save the environment.

Dummy.

The fact is those cultures which have bothered to advance over the ages have done more to clean up Mother Gaia than anyone, and passing those technologies to others both raises the standards of living for everyone, and reduces the pollution coming from countries that haven't developed enough to care about that stuff yet.
