2,557 Days

I watched President Bush deliver an emotional message at the dedication of the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial this morning. The president reminded the crowd that there has not been a terrorist attack on American soil in 2,557 days.

He also repeated some memorable words:

...this generation of Americans met its duty. We did not tire, we did not falter, and we did not fail."

During the beginning of the speech as he was acknowledging the honored guests, he gave a nice mention to former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who he described as a "first responder on 9/11". Any of us watching the video from the Pentagon will remember the video of Secretary Rumsfeld helping move injured parties away from the building.

The Memorial is quite spectacular and will have a similar impact on visitors that the Oklahoma City Memorial has.
