The Sarah Palin Phenomenon is doomed. You don't even need to read the rest of it. What this misguided writer is suggesting is that Sarah Palin's popularity is a product of media hype. Just one problem, though, the media hasn't hyped her at all. In fact, they've done everything they can to destroy her. The notion that the media's disinterest in her will somehow end her moment in the spotlight is silly because many, many people aren't getting their information from CBS or other mainstream media anymore.
But it's not because of her lack of foreign policy experience or her deer-in-the-headlights look during part of her interview last week with ABC's Charles Gibson.
The primary reason why the Palin bubble will burst is that the media will decide that they are bored with her. They'll need to move to shine a light on a fresh issue or individual.
The media still naively believes they are the kingmakers and kingbreakers alone, and that us poor dumb schlubs look only to them for guidance as to who we should worship and who we should revile.
Sorry, it just doesn't work that way anymore.
In reality the media was very late coming to the Palin party. The GOP base was suddenly energized by the announcement on August 29, along with a great many women who hadn't been McCain supporters, and the media had to scramble to catch up to the story. They're still backpeddling as the Palin surge sweeps over them. They didn't start it and they can't stop it.
