Many Republicans are becoming increasingly frustrated at the way the McCain campaign is misusing Sarah Palin. They've screened her off so completely from people that the myths created by the Dems and SNL are starting to stick. Her big interviews have not gone well, partly due to creative editing by the networks, and partly due to the briefings she's been getting from the former Bushies who are preparing her. She has great natural political instincts but they're being stifled by McCain talking points.
Today at The Corner a number of writers are pleading with McCain to let Sarah be Sarah. Read these comments from Mark Steyn, Kathryn Jean Lopez, Jonah Goldberg, and Mona Charen.
One of the great mysteries to me is why they didn't have her call in to the Rush Limbaugh show the day she was named to the ticket and once a week since then. Rush does not care for McCain but was thrilled with Palin, and getting her on conservative radio would do her and the McCain campaign a lot of good. There are any number of other hosts, nationally and in local markets, who would love to talk with her and her presence on those shows would really help the ticket with conservatives.
Let me join the chorus: Wake up, Senator, and let your campaign's greatest asset do her thing! Let my Palin go!
