In an interview on “The Today Show” on NBC, Clyburn rejected the GOP argument that a speech by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi just before the vote led to a wave of Republican defections. No, Rep. Clyburn, what was amazing was that in a moment that demanded bipartisan leadership Nancy Pelosi was not up to the job. She couldn't stand up there like Minority Leader John Boehner did and make an emotional plea to do what's right for America. She had to deliver a totally inappropriate rant and poison the atmosphere.
“It’s amazing to me that we can be so sophomoric to believe that a politician would not give a political speech,” Clyburn said.
My opinion hasn't changed. Worst. Speaker. Ever.
(However, in a side note, my post on her speech attracted thousands of visitors yesterday, so this is one Republican that was glad to hear her spout off.)
UPDATE: Amy Holmes has some thoughts on Pelosi's speech:
It seems to me that the real problem with her speech was its illogic. She stridently attacked George Bush's "failed economic policies" and then, in the same breath, implored members to support his most controversial, unprecedented policy, yet.
So, her message was George Bush has been an unmitigated disaster for 8 years. He hasn't gotten one thing right and has plunged America into an economic black hole. But in this case, we need to trust him. Why? Because she says so? They had a huddle?
