October 29, 1988 was a Saturday and my wife and I decided to attend a concert featuring a well known Christian pianist at a church in Yorba Linda . The concert was excruciatingly loud, so at the intermission we departed and headed to the Marie Callendar's restaurant in Tustin for a late dinner. We had almost finished our meal when my wife suddenly got a stricken look on her face. Without a pause I said "your water just broke, didn't it?" She nodded yes. Thus started a very long night.
I enlisted the help of our waitress in getting a couple of towels and we paid the bill and quickly headed home to change and call the doctor. Within the hour we were on our way to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach. That night also happened to be the Fall time change, and because labor never kicked off by itself, we got to spend an extra hour trying futilely to rest in the labor and delivery room. Things wouldn't get going until labor was induced beginning at 7am the next morning.
I'll have more on the results of those two days tomorrow.
