Sports Stories in the News

Both sad in their own ways. First:
NEWPORT BEACH – Leigh Steinberg, a celebrity sports agent was arrested last week on suspicion of being drunk in public.

The 59-year-old Newport resident, who was the inspiration for the film "Jerry Maguire" and has represented athletes including Oscar de la Hoya, Matt Leinart and Ben Roethlisberger, was arrested after police received a call about a man yelling on Coast Highway around 7:45 p.m. Oct. 22.

Show me the bail money!

And then, this:
RAVENNA, Mich. — Don Doane belonged to the same team at a Ravenna bowling alley for 45 years.

Just moments after rolling the first perfect 300 game of his life, Doane collapsed onto the floor while high-fiving his Nutt Farm teammates.

The 62-year-old Ravenna resident was taken to a local hospital but couldn't be saved. A medical examiner determined that a heart attack killed Doane.

At least he went out on a high note. Can't ask for much more than that.
