West Hollywood Mayor Opposed to "Hanging Palin" Decoration

The mayor of West Hollywood has issued a statement regarding the home in his city that features an effigy of Sarah Palin hanging from the roof:
West Hollywood Mayor Jeffrey Prang chimed in on LAist's Sarah Palin effigy post yesterday. Like 99.9999% of everyone else, he's not cool with it.

"I respect that we all have the right to freedom of speech," began Prang. "However, with that right comes responsibility. While these residents have the legal right to the display of Senator McCain and Governor Palin, I strongly oppose political speech that references violence - real or perceived. Politics in America has become extremely polarized in recent years and we all have a responsibility to focus on our political differences in a thoughtful, and peaceful manner. I urge these residents to take down their display and find more constructive ways to express their opinion."
You wanna know what really has him concerned? The "couple" that did this are gay and West Hollywood is one of the most gay-centric cities in California. With gay marriage on the ballot on November 4th, I think hizzoner is more worried about the bad publicity this will generate towards the gay community and the effect it might have on the election.

West Hollywood is also the site of one of the most debauched Halloween celebrations of the year, and you just have to know the queens in Sarah Palin drag will be out in force. Showing a few of those on the evening news won't help defeat Prop 8 either.

Those numbskulls with the anti-Palin effigy might just help defeat gay marriage in California. If that happens, they may get a necktie party of their own.

UPDATE: The "couple" has caved to pressure from the mayor:
A California couple who hung an effigy of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin from a noose off the side of their house have removed the display.

As we reported yesterday, the hanging mannequin generated nationwide controversy, as well as an appeal from the mayor of West Hollywood, who asked them to take it down.
