What Will the Leftie Bloggers Do If Obama Wins?

That's the question coming from a lefty blogger:
Aside from some anxiety about what nasty surprises Republicans may have in store for us this week and on Election Day I am, overall, feeling hopeful about our electing Obama and lots of Democrats to the House and Senate.

But I am not so sanguine about this: with Democrats in control, what will happen to the liberal blogosphere?

We have analyzed and trumpeted, raised money and consciousness, and provided a new model for doing political business. But if the vitality that drives us stems largely from being the "out" party lo these many years, and if it's the red meat of outrage that has fed us -- what will we do after we've won?

We have learned to participate in a wide-ranging narrative of community and world. What do we bring next to the story?

Given that a great deal of lefty blogging is generated by rage against "the man", I think there will be some lost little lambs out there in the lefty blogosphere for a while. However, Obama will disappoint them because he won't do what they think he will do, even with a Dem congress. Remember the pledge to get out of Iraq? Won't happen, at least not with the speed they hoped for. Remember the tax cuts for 95% of the people? Won't happen, because just like Bill Clinton in 1993, Obama will be forced into the realization that he can't thrust a huge tax hike on the producers in this country to pay for his folly in the middle of a recession. The tax cuts will have to go.

And what about all the peace, unity and harmony that he is supposed to bring? He'll inherit a country that's nearly as divided as the United States of 1860. The racial politics he's played will come back to haunt him and his loyal followers as they find it difficult to gain consensus in America on anything. He will disappoint them, that's for sure.

The question is how long they'll be able to contain their anger at him? Do they dare criticize "The One"? Wouldn't that be racist? Can they push him in the lefty direction they desire? Probably not. After all, he'll already be starting his 2012 campaign. Obama's history is gaining one job and immediately seeking higher office. He'll have trouble squeezing in the presidential duties as he furiously runs for reelection.

Should Obama win the one thing that will unite all Americans is the frustration they'll feel for the inept President Obama.
