Stacy Harp has the details at her site. Stories of vandalism directed at Yes on 8 supporters are becoming legion, even here in calm, cool Orange County.
She also has a story posted on Facebook (if you're a member you might be able to see it here) about a family that put a large Yes on 8 banner on their house. Opponents parked a Chevy Suburban in front of their house and painted "No on 8, End the Hate" on the left side read window, and on the rear window "Bigots Live Here" along with an arrow pointed at the house.
The family, to their credit, reacted much more calmly than I would have. I would have taken some photos of the car to show the cops, right before I took my crowbar and erased the writing. Those idiots would have been buying some new car windows if they did that in front of my house.
If Stacy gets permission to post the item on her blog, I'll provide a link.
I mentioned my experience with No on 8 demonstrators on Sunday when we went to vote. Let's just say it was an eclectic crowd. And I didn't see a lot of joy among them. Sure, they were shouting and waving at passing cars, but there was an underlying anger that seemed to come out in the glances or stares and cars like mine that didn't give them positive feedback (I didn't respond at all).
Yesterday we had an experience with Yes on 8 demonstrators who were working a couple of corners near my home waving at people heading home from work. They were a very happy looking bunch, big smiles, friendly waves, and if I'd had more time I would have stopped and talked to them. I'm guessing they were part of a church group. There was nothing "hateful" about those people. They were good ambassadors for their cause.
As I said in the Sunday post I have my doubt that these demonstrations having any real effect on voters, however, looking at the No on 8 crowd on Sunday might certainly give one pause about supporting their point of view. They may not persuade anyone to vote with them, but they could certainly persuade some people to vote against them.
