Former first lady Barbara Bush will spend several days at a Houston, Texas hospital, following surgery for a perforated ulcer, the hospital announced Wednesday, updating an earlier statement that she would go home Wednesday.
Bush, 83, was admitted to The Methodist Hospital Tuesday night with abdominal pains and underwent a battery of tests.
"As a result, she underwent routine, laparoscopic surgery Tuesday night to correct a perforated ulcer," hospital spokeswoman Ami Felker told AFP, adding that surgeons closed a "one-centimeter hole" in her stomach.
"She was resting comfortably Wednesday morning, and visiting with her family," she added. Bush was set to be discharged from the hospital next week, following the Thanksgiving holiday.
The former president spent the night in the hospital with her. They're a pretty close team.
