Dueling Pardons

I did a post the other day about the lather the left is in regarding the possibility that President Bush could pardon some people the lefties would like to include in the post-Bush witchhunt. One congressmen even sent a letter to the White House demanding that Bush stop pardoning people he hadn't yet pardoned. It's that bad out there.

Today there are opposing suggestions for the president on the issue of pardons. First, from Bill Kristol, a columnist for the NY Times writing in the Weekly Standard:
One last thing: Bush should consider pardoning--and should at least be vociferously praising--everyone who served in good faith in the war on terror, but whose deeds may now be susceptible to demagogic or politically inspired prosecution by some seeking to score political points. The lawyers can work out if such general or specific preemptive pardons are possible; it may be that the best Bush can or should do is to warn publicly against any such harassment or prosecution.
And, from the NY Times:
With the Bush administration drawing to a close, it is presidential pardon season. Presidents have become increasingly shameless about issuing pardons to insulate political cronies from prosecution, even to protect themselves. We hope President Bush will not abuse the pardon power by putting his appointees, political supporters or friends above the law.
I'm with Kristol on this one. Pardon them all. It would be worth it just to see all the heads exploding on the left.
