Joe Lieberman Sells His Soul Back to the Devil

Joe Lieberman's political soul was temporarily on loan to John McCain and the GOP, but the days of rooting for a Republican are over for Joe Lieberman. He must really want that chairmanship:
Majority Leader Harry Reid did not oust independent Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman from his Senate chairmanship Thursday during an afternoon meeting that most had expected to be contentious, but the Connecticut senator's position in the caucus is by no means assured.

Reid, who had been considering whether to toss Lieberman from the entire Senate Democratic caucus as punishment for Lieberman's support of Republican John McCain for president, said the two had a "very good conversation between colleagues and friends" but those talks haven't ended.

Lieberman's relations have been strained with the Democratic colleagues with whom he caucuses, giving them their one-vote majority in the 110th Congress.

Senior Democratic Senate aides told FOX News that Lieberman's speech at the Republican National Convention really sent most Democrats over the edge. Many fumed and wanted Reid to strip Lieberman of his Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee chairmanship or to oust Lieberman from the caucus altogether.

Still, Lieberman attended most lunches when he was in town and when he knew they weren't entirely politically focused.

Following their discussion, Lieberman said that in supporting McCain he tried not to look through the "partisan lens" but to do what was right for his state and the country. He said that now that the election is over, he completely agrees with President-elect Barack Obama that it is time to unite the country and keep it safe.

"That is exactly what I intend to do with my colleagues in the Senate," he said. "And those are standards I will use in considering the options before me, and I will ask others to do so as well."

Now Harry Reid can hold the chairmanship over Lieberman and make sure he tows the Dem line and opposes any filibuster attempts by the GOP. He'll be Harry's lapdog.

Lieberman's role in the McCain campaign always worried me, though he might have made a good Secretary of State or Defense. Otherwise, he's a stone cold liberal and certainly didn't agree with Republicans on any of the social issues. Lieberman's involvement with McCain was one of the reasons the campaign had to reach out and get Sarah Palin to keep the conservatives from fleeing the campaign altogether.
