Obama Tries to Have it Both Ways on Prop 8

The esteemed journalists at MTV asked Barack Obama his opinion on California's Proposition 8, and as always, he tried to have it both ways:
"I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage. But when you start playing around with constitutions, just to prohibit somebody who cares about another person, it just seems to me that's not what America's about. Usually, our constitutions expand liberties, they don't contract them."

In other words, he was against gay marriage before he was for it.

All the rhetoric about constitutions and rights is nice, but the California constitution also gives voters the right to make changes if they feel the constitution is not doing what they feel it should do. There is nothing that limits voters to expanding rights, as opposed to removing "rights" that were newly discovered by a small group of judges.

As Dem Rep. Gerald Nadler so eloquently stated, Obama has no political courage. He can't stand up for what he says he believes.
