“Unfortunately, I think people thought they were making a statement about what their view of same-sex marriage was,” the San Francisco Democrat said. “I don’t know if it was clear that this meant that we are amending the Constitution to diminish freedom in our state.”I think it was quite clear to the voters what they were doing when they voted for Prop 8. They knew the were amending the constitution, not to diminish freedom, but to restore the definition of marriage to what it was before a handful of judges changed it.
Everytime Congress passes a new law restricting one action or another it is "diminishing freedom". Maybe we can get them to stop doing that, based on Pelosi's logic.
Protests apparently will continue. I'm half expecting them to threaten to hold their breath until they turn blue. One reader wrote to warn that she had heard that there may be plans to protest at Saddleback Church on Sunday morning. They've had protests before, so I don't think it's a major threat - more a nuisance than anything else. Pastor Rick Warren is being targeted because of his stated support for Prop 8. We'll see if anything happens.
