Putting It Into Perspective

It seems like we're all obsessing over the election, and it's easy to forget that Tuesday's results aren't the most important thing in the world (even if the lefties think it is). I had a reminder of that Saturday night.

There were a lot of people in the concert audience I hadn't seen for a couple of years, and before the program started a lady I knew came up to talk to me. She reintroduced herself (though she didn't have to) and told me how much her husband Art enjoyed our group. For a moment I was afraid she was going to tell me he had passed away, but she then said this: "Could you come over and talk to him? He has terminal cancer now and would like to see you."

I went over to the other side of the church and talked to him. He still had the same cheery, upbeat personality, but can't get around well now and has that sickly yellow "cancer" color. We spoke for a couple of minutes, and then I went back to my concert preparations.

As I worked on political posts on Sunday I couldn't help but think about Art. This is the last election he'll ever vote in, and does he care who wins? Probably, but in the big scheme of Art's life, it really doesn't matter that much. He's going to get a chance to meet the real Messiah pretty soon, regardless of who America chooses as its leader.

I think we all need a little grounding every now and then as we allow the emotions of the election season to overtake us.
