Suicide Jump Off the 241

*UPDATED* I drove my wife to work this morning since one of our cars is in the shop, and on the way up Oso Parkway we were passed by two CHP cruisers running with lights and sirens up to the toll road. Here's why:

MISSION VIEJO – A California Highway Patrol officer was injured as he tried to keep a 45-year-old woman from jumping off a toll road overpass this morning, authorities said.

The officer tried to hold on to the woman but she resisted and fell from the 241 toll road overpass, said CHP officer Gabe Montoya.

The coroner's office identified the woman as 45-year-old Lisa Barrera from Rancho Santa Margarita.

The CHP officer saw Barrera parked on the right shoulder of the 241 toll road near El Toro Road and pulled over to assist just after 6:40 a.m., Montoya said. The officer thought the car was a disabled vehicle at the time.

The officer talked to Barrera briefly before she tried to jump from the overpass, Montoya said. The officer then tried to hold on to her but she resisted and jumped from the overpass. Her body was found in the brush near a bike trail.

Barrera had been reported missing earlier in the day by her family. She died at the scene.

I'm sure this will be a sad story when all the details are revealed.
