You can tell the crowds are coming into town for New Year's Eve. The streets are really getting full and you're pretty much shoulder-to-shoulder everywhere you go. The construction on Las Vegas Blvd. has further compressed the crowds, and when you add in the probably illegal aliens who have been recruited to try and shove call girl material in your hands as you go by, it's pretty hectic trying to get anywhere.
We've probably made a dozen trips to Vegas since 2000 and along the way have walked past hundreds of thousands of people. It always amazes me that in all those trips we've only run into someone we know one time. Back in 2002 we stopped for lunch at a restaurant in the Monte Carlo, and my cousin from Oklahoma happened to be in there entertaining some clients. He was staying at Paris Las Vegas and they decided to come to the Monte Carlo for this particular restaurant.
Other than him, I've never seen a soul that I know. Oh, well, except for Pete Rose, the disgraced former baseball player. I've seen Pete three times now signing autographs at a sports store in Caesar's Palace. Kinda sad, really.
The day was spent on foot going from home base to Caesar's, then down to the Venetian, and back to Planet Hollywood. That's a pretty good hike, especially with the crowds. I think tonight we'll stay close to home and maybe just go across the street and watch the fountains.
More walking and shopping tomorrow.
