Every January since 1999 my quartet has traveled to Rockport, TX for the Rockport Gospel Music Festival. This year's event starts tonight and runs through Sunday.
We're flying out early this morning from LAX, making a quick stop in Houston, before ending up in Corpus Christi. From there it's a 45 minute drive up to Rockport. We'll get there about 2:15 pm local time and will have to scramble as usual to get set-up and ready for the evening concert.
The Friday and Saturday concerts are held in the 1,200 seat high school auditorium, and it will be full for both events. Sunday's event starts at 3pm at the First Baptist Church in Rockport and we'll probably have 600-700 for that concert. I'll be emceeing half the Sunday concert, which in addition to featuring different groups will also feature several local choirs.
We'll also be doing a Sunday morning service for Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Portland, TX.
Because of the hectic schedule, I won't be taking the laptop on this trip so there won't be much posting between now and Monday night. One of my guys is bringing his computer, but any posts will probably be brief. Hopefully the political news world will be quiet for these four days. They're putting us up in a very nice hotel right on the bay, so rather than sit and stare at a computer screen in my spare time I'll probably be looking at the water instead.
We always have a great time with our friends in Rockport. After 10 previous trips we've gotten to know a lot of the local people and it's almost like a home away from home. It'll be a nice change of pace.
