We left the house at 6am for the 475 mile drive to Sonoma State University to deposit the girl back there for her second semester. We were in drizzle and light rain all the way from home to the top of the Grapevine, and as we broke out of the rain it looked like it would be a beautiful trip through the San Joaquin Valley.
However, there's a little thing called "Tule fog" that's known to occur this time of year, and as we reached the bottom of the Grapevine we ran into pea soup thick fog with visibilities down as low as 100 feet or so. It was that way for probably 80 miles.
Once out of that mess things got much easier and it was just cloudy and cool the rest of the way. We hit Trader Joe's, Costco, Target and Safeway to stock the girl's pantry, had a nice dinner at Red Lobster, and have now made it bleary-eyed back to the hotel in Petaluma. Tomorrow, we're just going to get up, eat breakfast, and make the long trip home. She needs a day by herself to get ready for school so Mom and Dad are no longer needed.
But we'll be back! We're already planning to come back in March when she'll be playing in the faculty concert. Can't wait.
