Word of the Day: Inaugurasm

I'll define the word in a moment, but first let me describe a sufferer. While watching the endless gushing media coverage of the inauguration festivities on the local news yesterday they went to story featuring a black woman who was selling unlicensed Obama merchandise on the streets of Los Angeles (of course, they never mention the "unlicensed" part or the fact that what she was doing was probably illegal). The reporterette ask this women what Obama's election meant to her. She said:

"Freedom has come."

Really? Freedom has come?

Now, I'm not a professional TV reporter but the thought occurred to me that a follow-up question would be appropriate:

"Freedom from what, exactly? What will you have freedom to do under President Obama that you couldn't do or were prevented from doing under President Bush? What chains will Obama remove?"

Of course, the reporterette didn't ask a follow-up question. Why? Because both of them were in the midst of a full blown inaugurasm. I define "inaugurasm" as follows:

"The state of mindless bliss brought about by the personality worship of Barack Obama and unbound by any truth, facts or reality".

Sufferers come in all varieties, but are heavily concentrated among the mainstream press, hardened lefties, and the minority community.

Having said all that, let's get back to this poor dear misguided woman selling the unlicensed Obama merchandise. How could she, with a completely straight face, claim that Obama's election means "freedom has come"? It's really pretty simple. For decades the people who claim to speak to and for the black community have been poisoning her mind and the minds of millions of others that Republicans want them to be slaves, want them to be downtrodden and poor and just want to give millions to the rich people who oppress them. Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes true, and the Al Sharptons and Jesse Jacksons of the world are master manipulators of the language. Aided by Dem politicians and their blatant pandering, this woman never had a chance. She clearly wanted to believe those things about Bush and the Republicans, and she clearly wants to believe in the personality cult being created around Obama.

She's a perfect candidate for an inaugurasm.

Sadly for her, just like their namesake, inaugurasms are short-live phenomena and she will soon wake up to the fact that her life is not notably different under President Obama than it was under President Bush. Oh sure, she may have a few ill-gotten gains in the pocket from the sale of Obama icons, but will she really be any more free on Wednesday than she was on Monday?

Nope. Hope and change are likely to become nope and unchange.

So, mainstream media and all you Democrats, enjoy your inaugurasms while you can. The promises being made to you today have all the sincerity of the hooker who tells you you're the best she's ever had. I hope reality doesn't kick you too hard in the butt (though you could really use a good smack).

UPDATE: I turned on the TV this morning to a local news station and the very first thing I heard was "Someday somebody will ask you where you were when Barack Obama was inaugurated".

I highly doubt that, but then I'm not suffering from an inaugurasm.

However, I have a plan in the unlikely event someone actually asks me that question. As soon as I finish the radio interview right before noon Eastern time tomorrow I'm heading to the bathroom so that at the very moment Obama is sworn in I'll be sitting on the throne. If somebody wants to know what I was doing, I'll tell them.
