Increasing Taxes on Charitable Giving

Not directly, of course, since that would be political dynamite, but indirectly:

The White House proposal would reach into these deductions and effectively levy an additional tax of 7% on charitable contributions and mortgage interest (and up to 11.6% if Obama’s tax increases go into effect) for those in the highest tax bracket—in other words, those with the most ability to support America’s charities.

Assuming these tax hikes make it into law, let's look at the nation's charities and see what shape they're in in a year or so. There are going to be problems.

And of course, heartless Republicans will get the blame.
