New York City Councilman Wants Secret Service to Investigate a Cartoon

The fallout over the New York Post cartoon (pictured here) continues to grow more and more ludicrous. Now a New York City Councilman wants the Secret Service to investigate:
City Councilman John Liu says he wants the Secret Service to investigate “what went into that cartoon and what is the meaning of that cartoon” in the New York Post yesterday, because the Secret Service “investigates all threats, implied and otherwise.”

Liu and other elected officials were asked about it at a press conference about the city’s food stamp policy on the steps of City Hall this afternoon.

Sometimes a monkey is just a monkey.

When I first saw the cartoon I laughed out loud because I thought it was a very creative mixing of two big stories - the crazed chimp in Connecticut and the messy Porkulus Bill. Connecting Obama and the monkey in some sort of racial slur never even occurred to me. Apparently a lot of liberals are very quick to make a connection between blacks and apes, but not me (though I have to admit that I think Mike Tyson may have a silverback somewhere in his family tree).

It makes you wonder who the real racists are.

For what it's worth the New York Post issued a (sort of) apology to those who were stupid enough to miscontrue the meaning of the cartoon. To those who are just trying to make political hay out of this, they basically flipped them the bird. Probably the right balance of sentiments.
