When the federal response to Katrina went poorly, Bush was characterized as indifferent to the suffering of poor black people in New Orleans and was all but declared a racist. FEMA was an incompetent mess and Republicans were in general evil. (Of course, the local and state Democrat run governments were given a pass.)
It got so bad after Katrina that if a gopher sneezed somewhere in the midwest the president had to fly Air Force One into the area to show the government "cared". It was getting a little silly, but if Bush didn't run to affected areas he was an uncaring, racist clod (and of course, Republicans were evil).
Kentucky has been suffering the effects of the worst ice storm in their history for over a week now, but FEMA is nowhere to be seen. Forty-two people are dead. The president hasn't traveled to the area to console the victims, tour the damage, or direct relief efforts. In fact, there hasn't even been a statement of support from The One.
Could it be that because this part of flyover country voted overwhelmingly for McCain that The One doesn't care about their suffering? Does he have something against poor white people?
I'm just asking the questions the press would have asked has Bush skipped a trip to some ghetto somewhere.
