The Mrs. and I have been looking forward to this day for several weeks. Back on January 24th we took the college girl back to Sonoma State and haven't seen her since. That changes today.
We usually try to plan our trips up north around her concert schedule. Back during Christmas break she was invited to play in the faculty concert on Sunday night, playing selections from Revel and Stravinsky alongside various members of the university's instrumental music faculty. A few selected students are chosen to fill the instrumental positions needed for the piece. She'll be playing piccolo alongside her flute instructor. This is her second faculty concert (we weren't able to go to the first one in December).
The original plan had been to leave on Saturday and come home on Monday, but as I was making plans and looking at the performing arts calendar for the school I noticed that she had a wind ensemble concert tonight and we decided we didn't want to miss that.
So, long before the sun rises we'll be on I-5 headed north. We're meeting her 475 miles away at noon for a tour of the brand new Green Music Center where she'll be performing next year, and then lunch and whatever else she wants to do. Concert tonight and Sunday night, and otherwise some time with the girl.
Needless to say, blogging will be a lot more sporadic through Monday. The hotel has wireless so I'll be able to keep up with things during our downtime. I'll try and post some photos along the way.
Quick Update: We're here. Wireless works well in the hotel room. I'll be back later.
