LAKELAND — A Lakeland woman who won a $2 million dream home from a cable television network says she and her husband aren't sure if they'll be making the big move to the California house.See, they should have given it to us. We would have moved in (if we could have figured out how to pay the estimated $1 million tax bill).
Cheryl Smith found out Sunday that she won the custom-designed, fully furnished home in the HGTV Dream Home giveaway. The Victorian-style home is in Sonoma, Calif.
The 58-year-old grandmother and her husband, Joe, will be given the keys to the house at a ceremony next month. But Cheryl Smith says they are "just going out there to see what it feels like and then we will decide."
Smith was among the more than 39 million people who entered the drawing.
I imagine that once the Smith's see Sonoma and realize how far it is away from their family, not to mention how different the weather is from their home in Lakeland, they'll just sell it like most of the winners so they can pay the taxes and bank the rest.
