When my daughter entered Mission Viejo High School in 2003 the football team was in the midst of what would become the longest winning streak in Orange County history. The streak was broken when the team lost their only game of the season in the CIF final, and the following year they were once again undefeated, going all the way to the CIF championship. The quarterback both of those years was Mark Sanchez.
Sanchez went on to USC and had a great career there before opting to leave a year early and enter the NFL draft. Just a few minutes ago he was picked up by the New York Jets as the fifth pick in the first round. The Jets traded up 12 spots to get him.
Out of the frying pan of USC and into the fire of New York City sports.
He can handle it.
Congrats Mark, and congrats to the Jets for picking up a good guy.
Mark's the second guy from those great 2003/2004 teams to make it to the NFL. Jed Collins has played for a couple of NFL teams, and I predict there will be a couple others before too long.
