More Nanny State Laws

SFGate has info on new laws that Democrats want to inflict on Californians:
California's lawmakers return from their weeklong spring break Monday - and will dive into committee hearings to consider new legislation.

They will debate pay limits for higher-education executives, a BART police oversight commission, labeling the carbon footprint of products for sale and nutrition rules for day care centers.

-- SB217 by Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, would prohibit top administrators at community colleges and in the California State University system from receiving pay raises in years that student fees increase. It also asks that UC regents follow the same standard.

-- Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco, has introduced AB312 to create an Office of Citizen Complaints for oversight of BART police.

-- AB19 by Assemblyman Ira Ruskin, D-Redwood City, would create a voluntary program for labeling the carbon footprint of products sold in the state. Under the program, consumers would be able to easily see the greenhouse-gas impact of their purchases.

-- Assemblywoman Julia Brownley, D-Santa Monica, has introduced AB627 to require child care centers receiving state reimbursement for their food programs to limit sugary sweets and drinks, prohibit deep-fat frying, mandate servings of vegetables and limit TV, computer and video-game use to one hour per day, among other regulations.

Will monitors be assigned to make sure the kiddies eat their veggies too?
