Arlen Specter Becomes the Perfect Democrat

It didn't even take him a week to blame the GOP for killing people:
Sen. Arlen Specter, Pennsylvania Democrat, said part of the reason that he left the Republican Party last week was disillusionment with its health-care priorities, and suggested that had the Republicans taken a more moderate track, Jack Kemp may have won his battle with cancer.

Mr. Specter, responding to a question from CBS' Bob Schieffer over whether he had let down Pennsylvanians who wanted a Republican to represent them, said he thought his priorities were more in line with those of the Democrats.

"Well, I was sorry to disappoint many people. Frankly, I was disappointed that the Republican Party didn't want me as their candidate," Mr. Specter said on "Face the Nation." "But as a matter of principle, I'm becoming much more comfortable with the Democrats' approach. And one of the items that I'm working on, Bob, is funding for medical research."

Mr. Specter continued: "If we had pursued what President Nixon declared in 1970 as the war on cancer, we would have cured many strains. I think Jack Kemp would be alive today. And that research has saved or prolonged many lives, including mine."

Last time I checked Specter was still alive, so apparently the evil Republican health policies haven't managed to kill him yet.

Remember when John Edwards promised us that if John Kerry was elected Christopher Reeve would walk again? This is Specter's "John Edwards" moment.

Our nation, under Republican presidents as well as Republican Congresses, has poured billions into health care. We have the best health care system in the world. It's nonsense to assert that somehow GOP policies have reduced the quality of health care in this country.

What do the Democrats want to offer us? A nationalized system that won't improve anything but will cost trillions and will result in rationing. Had Specter contracted his cancer under that system chances are he would have been considered too old to get expensive treatments and would have been "rationed" out of the population.

I knew that becoming a Democrat would be harmful to his intellect, but I didn't expect him to go stupid so astonishingly fast.
