If You Drive 80 in a 30 Zone the Cops Ought to Be Able to Beat Your Butt

Yesterday some parolee gang-banger slug in El Monte led cops on a chase that at times was going 80 mph on 30 mph streets, driving on the wrong side of the street, and eventually ended with a crash into an innocent citizen. The civil libertarians are now complaining that he was treated harshly when the cops finally cornered him in a backyard. A cop appears to kick him in the head as he lays on the ground. Of course, with helicopter video you don't get any audio from the scene so you don't know what was being said by the cop or the slug, and whether the slug was still a threat. I think you can pretty much be assured that anytime you're dealing with a tattooed-up gang-banger parolee, you're dealing with a threat.

We need to change our laws. As far as I'm concerned, if you're going to drive like that and run from the cops, they should be able to beat your butt. In fact, I'd make it mandatory. They ought to let the dog get in a couple of chomps too.

Punishment for placing untold numbers of innocent people in jeapardy ought to be harsh and immediate. It doesn't take a jury to prove this guy's guilt.
