A Memorial Day Message

UPDATE: Somehow the video below was restricted when it was first uploaded so if you tried to view it earlier you weren't able to. The problem has been corrected and I'm bumping this post up for those of you who had tried earlier but couldn't view it.

On Memorial Day in 2007 my father-in-law, Roy Jennings, was invited to speak at the Memorial Day service in Fillmore, CA. He was a decorated WWII veteran who was awarded a Silver Star, Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart for his actions in France during 1944. He was 19 at the time.

This will be our first Memorial Day without him. He passed away on December 2, 2008 at the age of 83.

I recorded his speech in Fillmore and decided to take an excerpt from it and post it for you to hear. He was a history teacher for many years in Santa Paula, but public speaking was not his thing. He wasn't comfortable holding the microphone, so my wife did it for him.

Keep in mind, the experiences he's relating during this talk occurred when he was only 19 and fighting near Metz, France under General Patton. As you listen, think about the men like him and millions of others who have served so we can be free.
