Hey, Where'd My TV Go?

That's what an estimated 1-2 million people will be saying later today:

NEW YORK — TV stations in the U.S. plan to cut their analog signals Friday, ending a more than 80-year era for the over-the-air technology that changed America's landscape, and reshaped and defined its culture.

The Federal Communications Commission estimates that more than 1 million homes still have not installed digital converters or switched to a digital cable or satellite service provider, and has put 4,000 operators on standby to handle calls from confused viewers. Volunteer groups and local government agencies were helping elderly viewers set up digital converter boxes that keep older TVs functioning.

Anybody who has gotten to this point and still isn't ready for digital TV doesn't deserve to watch. The broadcasters have been pounding us with ads warning about the transition for months, and The One even delayed the implementation of the conversion 4 months and spent hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer funds to give away free converter boxes.

Tonight there will be stories of people who are astonished that their sets quit working and they missed their soaps. It's gonna happen.
