Papers to initiate at divorce papers between Jon and Kate Gosselin have been filed at the Bucks County Courthouse in Doylestown, Pa., PEOPLE is reporting. While little other information is given, it does seem that the couple's 10-year marriage is indeed over as many have speculated. So, what happens next? Here's my guess:
- Interest in the show will crater. People tuned in because watching this family made them feel good, but this season has been such a downer that many will tune out.
- The family may be in for a real financial shock. They've reportedly been getting $25,000 - $50,000 per episode, but the future of the show is now in serious doubt. I'll be shocked if it goes beyond this season.
- Kate has a new career as an inspirational speaker to churches and other groups. Kiss that career goodbye. I doubt if she'll be much in demand from that clientele again.
- They also have two books out, and unless their publisher wants a book about divorce, there won't be any more of those either. Sales of the existing books will probably go the way of their TV ratings.
It's a sad deal all around.
