I am not a Lutheran. And now St. Timothy Church in Charleston also is not Lutheran. Here's the story.
The national leaders of the Evangelical Lutheran Church voted to allow gay clergy and to recognize gay marriage.
Pastor Richard Mahan protested by blacking out the word Lutheran on the church’s sign.
What?
Standing up to the church’s elders?
Didn’t Martin Luther do this 500 years ago?
My ELCA pastor friend Mark Daniels is having some problems of his own over the denomination's decision. You can read his thoughts here.
When I was in the church insurance business I wrote a number of policies for Episcopal Churches that split from their denomination over similar issues. I fully expect the same to happen to the ELCA.

I am so glad I belong to the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
The following link is from the President of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS)on the matter with the ECLA.

All of our fundamental churches need to stand up and be counted as being against the sins of the world. Thank you to the Missouri Synod for taking that stand.
I belong to a little community church that is based on the Bible and it's teaching.
On a great number of church's today they could take the name down and just call them "St. Lucifer's". They reject what God's Word (the Bible) has to say about their lifestyle, etc., however, God has not changed any, whether you study the Old or New Testament.
Not sure if being part of the Missouri Synod will be much protection for a church.
I went to a Missouri Synod affiliated Lutheran church where the conservative members were asked to apologize to the liberal members for the 2004 election of GWB. I refused to apologize and left the church promptly.
Pray for the Missour Synod, as they are under a lot of pressure to conform to society.
The LCMS website is a must read. No matter what our personal feelings are, we must follow the word of God. It is unfortunate that many people think they can read whatever they want into the what the Bible teaches. That is the original sin of man, we think we know better than God!
