Time to Divert Attention From Health Care

Things were looking pretty bad for Obamacare, bad enough that even the hard left was threatening to abandon their rainbows and unicorns.

What to do? Throw them a bone in the form of a torture investigation:
After months of consideration, Attorney General Eric Holder plans to appoint a special prosecutor to examine allegations that terror suspects were abused at the hands of their CIA interrogators.

The highly controversial decision comes as the Department of Justice releases a 2004 report from the CIA's inspector general detailing allegations of harsh interrogation practices -- which Holder cited in his decision.

"As a result of my analysis of all of this material, I have concluded that the information known to me warrants opening a preliminary review into whether federal laws were violated in connection with the interrogation of specific detainees at overseas locations," Holder said in a written statement Monday.

The newly-released document claims one interrogator said a colleague once told Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed that if any other attacks happened in the United States, "We're going to kill your children."

Another interrogator allegedly tried to convince a different terror suspect detainee that his mother would be sexually assaulted in front of him -- though the interrogator in question denied making such a threat.

Several details in the review had already been reported, such as the alleged use of mock executions and other tactics to scare detainees.

The report said interrogators threatened Abd al-Nashiri, the alleged planner of the 2000 USS Cole bombing, by holding a power drill and handgun to his head. The report said they also staged a fake execution by having CIA officers and guards scream and yell in an adjacent cell and then leading the detainee past a hooded, motionless guard -- who was lying on the floor and made to look like he had been shot.

The report concluded the CIA used "unauthorized, improvised, inhumane" practices in questioning "high-value" terror suspects.

Holder had reportedly reacted with disgust when he first read accounts in the classified version of the IG report -- a reaction that likely contributed to his decision to appoint a prosecutor.

I'm sure Holder was disgusted...he's a wimp who would rather play nice with terrorists than do the tough stuff necessary to keep the country safe. In his worldview America is the source of evil and must be stopped.

And by the way, Bush, Cheney and the CIA helped keep the country safe throughout the remainder of Bush's term.

Cheney also said there were documents confirming that the enhanced interrogation techniques were vital in obtaining information that led to other terrorists and stopping planned events. That document has now been released and appears to confirm Cheney's statements.

When this is over some poor schlub will probably be prosecuted because he mispoke during his own interrogation - something along the lines of what happened to Scooter Libby - and the CIA will be reduced to a quivering pile that's afraid to do anything lest a future administration deem their activities politically incorrect.

When you can't handle things yourself, then you just blame someone else or some other party, it must be their fault, whatever it is. Now Obama is looking for all the skeltons he can find in the closet to take the heat away from himself and those in the party that surround him closely. When you watch the evening news you almost have to laugh out loud watching something which is so organized, but there is really no new up to date NEWS!!!!!!

I, for one, am very glad that we have the CIA, Navy Seals, and all the other fine people that do whatever is necessary to keep our country safe. The wimps in D.C. will not be happy until we are a fully Muslim country, continued to be run by the terrorists.

It's interesting that these critics are offended by allegations that interrogators used tactics like pretending to have killed someone, whereas over in the terrorists' part of the world they don't pretend: they decapitate their prisoners quite for real.

Would that the other side just did it "pretend."

The funny thing about the "peace" advocates of the Democrat party is that they are against even fake violence. Before the Iraq war took place, they were opposed to even the threat of war.

So, "give saber rattling a chance" is not moral option for them. Even giving "fake saber rattling a chance" offends their delicate sensibilities.

However, when Americans are killed by terrorists, lefties are pretty okay with that. Go to a memorial service, sing songs, light candles, and sadly shake their heads at the misfortune of America having deserved what it got ....

Well, that's of course as long as their own precious hides are safe. They are brave in their moral righteousness from the safety of their office cubicles.

Dear Goofy Dick, everything that has happened to the country in the last 6 months was caused by 8 years of George W Bush's incompetence or purposeful malfeasance.

The investigation will surely show who ordered these actions and if they are not cowards former officials SHOULD step forward and take responsibility for the orders they gave to the CIA but we pretty much know THEY will hide behind the little guys and let them be punished.

There are lots of skeletons--5000 of them are US servicemen and women forced into a war that was being planned on Jan 31, 2001 at the first cabinet meeting with plenty of witnesses and no terror attacks to blame it on.

There were over 700 detainees and now there are less than 200. Where did all the rest of these, the most dangerous terrorists who ever lived, disappear to?

Oh, that's right...the tribunals found that there was no real evidence against most of them although they were held for years and labeled the worst of the worst by Bush and Cheney on the nightly news.

Our troops were made fools of by local tribesmen who turned in their enemies or neighbors as terrorists. They took our reward money and laughed behind the backs of our troops and Bush / Cheney.

Trillion dollar deficits, the country left on the brink of depression, kind of like the previous owner burning down the house and blaming it on the new owner.
