The United States wants to enlist its 3.4 million Girl Scouts in the effort to combat hurricanes, pandemics, terror attacks and other disasters.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) launched a campaign Tuesday to entice the blue, brown and green-clad multitudes to be even more prepared, with the promise of a new patch if they pitch in.

I can see it now. Hurricane Michelle, a category 4 brute, is headed straight for New Orleans. Janet Napolitano is addressing a group of Girl Scouts hastily flown in on military transports.

Napolitano: "These levies aren't gonna hold against the storm surge that's gonna hit here in 12 hours. I want a wall of Thin Mints 8 feet high all along this river. Now GO!"
