House Dems to Do Something Stupid

I know, I'm going to have to narrow it down a bit because that title covers so much ground. The stupid act de jour is voting to reprimand Rep. Joe Wilson:
House Democratic leaders have decided to hold a vote Tuesday to reprimand Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) for his actions during President Obama's address to Congress last week, during which he shouted "You lie!" as Obama discussed proposed health-care legislation.

After an hour-long meeting in the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), aides told reporters that the leadership team was united in its decision to press ahead with a "resolution of disapproval" because Wilson has refused to go to the well of the House chamber and publicly apologize to his colleagues. "It goes directly to the issue of conduct on the House floor," said Kristie Greco, spokeswoman for House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.), who has led the effort to rebuke his home-state colleague. "Not addressing the issue sets a precedent for bad behavior."

Wilson continued to refuse any further apology Monday beyond his private phone conversation with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel shortly after Obama's speech Wednesday night, and GOP leaders have lined up in opposition to the resolution against Wilson.

Democrats have scheduled a pair of lengthy meetings for their caucus in the morning and the early afternoon, part of an effort to build party unity on the health-care proposal, so the Wilson vote is not likely until midafternoon or later.
So, how do we best respond to this? If the Dems go through with their vote, sometime today go here and give Joe $10, or more if you can afford it. If you want to get even more creative, give him $.10 for every congressman that votes to reprimand him from either party. 200 votes, $20.00. Make sure the Democrats know you heard them.

The vote is meaningless, of course. There are no sanctions that go along with it, he won't lose any committee assignments, and won't even have to be there if he doesn't want to be. It's a show trial, pure and simple.

Even if one does not agree with the President, the outburst was so disrespectful, so the rebuke was a good decision.
