Detroit Die-athon

I don't think man is meant to run 26 miles:
Race officials say three men died of what is believed to be cardiac arrest during a marathon in Detroit Sunday.

Officials told the Detroit Free Press that two of the men collapsed at the finish line, and one man collapsed around the 12-mile mark at a drink station. It was unknown whether the men were running the full or half marathon as part of Sunday's 32nd Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon.

Rich Harshbarger, vice president of consumer marketing for the Detroit Media Partnership, says all three men were taken to area hospitals where they were pronounced dead.

The men's names, ages and hometowns were not immediately released.

Don't forget, the first guy that ran that distance, Pheidippides, dropped dead at the finish. That ought to tell us something.

Thousands of people run marathons every year with very few fatalities. I'd rather take my chances running than dealing with an obesity related disease.
