President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said, citing his outreach to the Muslim world and attempts to curb nuclear proliferation.Geez. I did as much for world peace as Obama did. Where's my Nobel Prize?
The stunning choice made Obama the third sitting U.S. president to win the Nobel Peace Prize and shocked Nobel observers because Obama took office less than two weeks before the Feb. 1 nomination deadline. Obama's name had been mentioned in speculation before the award, but many Nobel watchers believed it was too early to award the president.
And Ann Althouse asks a good question:
Why didn't Obama win the Nobel Prize for literature? The Nobel Committee just gave conservative talk radio fodder for the next two weeks.
Answer: He wrote two books.
Apparently apologizing for America, cozying up to our enemies, and insulting our allies has its rewards.
Obama was nominated when he'd only been in office for two weeks. Here's a post I wrote about his first two weeks in office. As you can see, he was definitely Nobel material.
And here's an analysis from TimesOnline:
The Nobel Peace Prize, severely damaged when it was given to terrorist killer Yasser Arafat, has now been totally devalued. It's meaningless. The award of this year’s Nobel peace prize to President Obama will be met with widespread incredulity, consternation in many capitals and probably deep embarrassment by the President himself. [HC: yeah...right]
Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent. It was clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration, approval for the election of America’s first black president and hope that Washington will honour its promise to re-engage with the world.
Instead, the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace.
And some headlines from Drudge:
MIXED REVIEWS; 'EMBARRASSING JOKE'...Watch for this - the lefties, celebrating this ridiculous prize, will complain about conservatives "rooting against America" just like they did when Chicago lost the Olympics.
PAPER: This makes mockery of peace prize...
White House Aide: 'It's Not April 1st, Is It?'...

It's looking like he only wrote one; "Dreams From Our Fathers" apparently written by Bill Ayers. This emerging scandal is going to be lots of fun.
I lost respect for the Nobel prizes a long time ago.
I think killing children is the key--Arafat, Obama, ....
Congratulations to President Obama!
Actually, it's probably about time for Mr. Ayers (oopsie! I mean President Obama) to write another book.
The largely non-eventful life of our illustrious leader needs updating often. God forbid any detail should be neglected from his remarkably boring curriculum vitae.
