Obama's Payoff to Chicago Cronies

Jonah Goldberg got this email from a friend:

Was in Chicago this week – all the cabbies talking about how the Daley cronies have bought up all the land by the Olympic village and the whole thing is crooked as the day is long…..fingers crossed for Rio.

There are two schools of thought on Obama's trip to Copenhagen to beg for the Chicago bid. One school says the fix is in and Obama would never make that trip only to be turned down. This way he's guaranteed a victory lap.

The second, offered by Rush Limbaugh on his show yesterday, suggests that the bid is in trouble and Obama was more or less ordered by Mayor Daley and the Chicago gang to go to Denmark and try and use his star power to save the day.

I can't decide which one is more likely, but given that Obama didn't get where he did on without someone pulling some very big strings, the second is beginning to look more and more realistic.
