A Swine Flu "National Emergency"

Really?
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama declared the swine flu outbreak a national emergency and empowered his health secretary to suspend federal requirements and speed treatment for thousands of infected people.

The declaration that Obama signed late Friday authorized Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to bypass federal rules so health officials can respond more quickly to the outbreak, which has killed more than 1,000 people in the United States.

The goal is to remove bureaucratic roadblocks and make it easier for sick people to seek treatment and medical providers to provide it immediately. That could mean fewer hurdles involving Medicare, Medicaid or health privacy regulations.
Interesting that this news came out on Friday night, a time when the White House loves to dump news it doesn't want anyone to pay attention to.

Why don't we declare a national energy emergency and remove federal hurdles to oil drilling and nuclear power? That has to potential to do far more for people than this pig flu thing.

Hopefully the "roadblocks" don't have anything to do with quality control and safety of the vaccine. I don't put anything past these amateurs.

And ditto on the energy emergency.

The original article has a quote indicating that ..."millions of Americans have had the swine flu ALREADY", which I'm certain is correct. However, the fatality rate is actually less than the rate for flu deaths in a normal year. This is simply another disraction from the nefarious destruction of our country that is going on.

This news is sick. I will probably die sooner from all of the nonsense drivel coming from the Crazy House. Seriously? More people die from the regular flu. The media is sensationalizing these cases. How about making the war in Afghanistan a national emergency?

I'm beginning to think the only time the "one" does anything, even if it makes no sense, is on Friday night. I guess the secret service hasn't found out how to light the golf courses at night.

The people should get together and make a declaration that the ONE is a national emergency and remove him from office. If he can't prove he is a natural born American, then boot him out. He can be worse for your health than getting the Swine Flu.

Re: Friday night.

It has long been normal practice to dump the bad news on Friday night, knowing there is no way it will get noticed in the completion with the important things of life like UNL (and other professional) football and such.

I think our local "newspaper" has a guy to do updates, but he only comes in Wednesdays, it looks like.

And the bbot him out song is getting old and scary.

If there was a way to boot him out (there isn't that doesn't involve high crimes and misdemeanors, or a Congress that has suddenly had massive gonad implants)....if if there was a way to boot him out, who would replace him?

I knew something was up. A news report out today says the FDA will allow doctors to use an experimental antiviral drug on hospital patients with H1N1.

There is no reason I can think of to allow this experiment on hospitalized patients, since H1N1 is NOT resistant to the known antivirals.
