Thank You,Veterans!

You stood in the gap between evil and freedom and we all have better lives because of it. I wanted to rerun my Veterans Day post from 2008, though not without a lump in my throat. This is the first Veteran's Day since my father-in-law, a decorated WWII veteran, left us. This post is dedicated to his memory, and to the millions more who have served.
================================

In honor of Veteran's Day, here are a couple of scenes from Washington. First, from the WWII Memorial:

And, from the Tomb of the Unknown at Arlington National Cemetery:
Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
UPDATE: Shortly after posting this item a reader sent me this:
A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a blank check
made payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to
and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people
in this country who no longer understand it.'
