Forget 2010 and 2012. If Republicans win both governors’ races and the New York House race, President Obama and Democratic leaders are going to have a 2009 agenda migraine. They could have a MUCH tougher time getting Dem senators and House members from conservative states and districts to walk the plank on health care and climate change. If Hoffman wins big in NY-23 and Christie wins the governor's job in New Jersey, watch out. Health care and cap-and-tax may be officially dead (I'm already figuring a GOP win in Virginia).
Should Harmer (R) beat the liberal Democrat in CA-10, the most unlikely outcome of the day, there will be a stampede of moderate Blue Dog Democrats away from the health bill and anything else that even remotely looks liberal. They'll be scared to death about keeping their seats in 2010.
