Continental and Delta Do Their Part...for Southwest Airlines

If there's one thing I really hate it's checked baggage fees:
Continental Airlines has matched Delta Air Lines' recent checked-luggage fee increase, a Continental spokeswoman says.

Delta and Continental passengers paying online for checked bags will be charged $23 for the first bag and $32 for the second.

Delta's online fees are rising by $8 for the first checked bag and $7 for the second. Continental's fees are rising by $5 for each bag.

The new Delta rates start Tuesday and apply to tickets purchased on or after January 5. Passengers who bought tickets before that date will pay the old rates, Delta spokeswoman Susan Elliott said.

Continental matched Delta's updated fees late last week, spokeswoman Mary Clark said. The increase on Continental applies to passengers who purchased tickets on or after January 9 for travel on or after January 16.

Those checking in bags at the airport will shell out even more: $25 for the first bag, $35 for the second on both airlines.
Meanwhile, Southwest Airlines continues to offer inexpensive fares and no baggage fees. Why would anyone fly another airline if they can avoid it?

I fly to Corpus Christi every January and could take American or Continental from Orange County, or Southwest from LAX. Even though it's considerably farther to fly out of LAX it's worth it to me just because I hate baggage fees so much.

I would think that in time people will just give up on flying. The airlines are designing their own deaths. First it was give up full meals, then it was give up the brown bag meal, then it was give up on some snacks, now they want in your pocket for baggage fee's.
BUT, the government will most likely bail them out when they say they have to go bankrupt. The answer to all this as Rick says: Fly Southwest, good prices, good service, and nice airplanes.
