A man believed to have breached security to bid his girlfriend goodbye, triggering the shutdown of a busy Newark Airport terminal that led to snarled flights worldwide, was arrested in New Jersey and faces a trespassing charge and a fine of up to $500, punishment a senator says should be much harsher. This poor schlub was just trying to say a lengthy goodbye to his girlfriend, but because a TSA post wasn't manned, he was able to walk into an area where he didn't belong and shut down an entire terminal. The politicians are mad at him and trying to throw everything they can at him, but I feel sorry for the guy. It wasn't his fault the TSA post was vacant. And the politicians who are trying to play tough with this guy ought to start going after the real problem children and not some lovesick puppy.
Haisong Jiang, 28, of Piscataway was taken into custody at Friday night at his home, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said. He was questioned at the airport by Port Authority police, who arrested him, and released shortly after midnight.
The Port Authority said in a statement that Jiang will be charged with defiant trespass, and that the charge was determined in coordination with the Essex County prosecutor and federal officials, though it's not a federal charge. A spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration referred all questions to the Port Authority.
He needs to hold his head up high and say "If love is a crime, then I'm guilty as charged." Throw it back in their face.
And demand a jury trial. I don't think they'll be able to get 12 people to convict him.

This must be the Rainbows & Unicorns version of "walk softly and carry a big stick." That stick was not suppose to be used to bludgeon the American people.
Hope his lawyer paints the Administration as the big incompetent bully that it is.
Rick, your "if love is a crime..." comment is brilliant.
Seriously sad.
How in all that is holy did it happen the guard station was unmanned?
HOW!??!
And somebody needs to find a way to make TSA compensate all that we harmed.
I'm curios exactly why a "post" was left unmaned. This incident was NOT the fault of the subject charged, it was the fault of either airport security/management/or an employee that left his post!
